Georgia is planning military action against its breakaway republic of Abkhazia in the next few days, according to news agencies in Russia who quote an unnamed source in the country’s security agencies.
According to the source, 3,000 Georgian troops are planning to seize strategic sites in the coastal area of Abkhazia.
The source added that several foreign embassies are getting ready to leave Georgia in the event of a military emergency.
Tbilisi denies the claims, describing rumours of an attack as provocation.
Georgia is demanding that Russia withdraws the extra peacekeepers it sent to the breakaway republic of Abkhazia several days ago.
Russia says its military presence does not exceed the maximum allowed by the CIS countries' peacekeeping agreements, and that it was only responding to an increase in troops deployed by Tblisi.
Moscow insists extra troops were sent to provide security to the Russian population of the republic, in case Georgia invades the breakaway region.
