COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — An 88-year-old client angrily seeking a down payment back on a deal shot a real estate broker in his office and then sat down in a nearby parking lot until police arrested him, authorities said Wednesday.
A disgruntled Richard Blow burst into the office just after 2:20 p.m. and shot Jerry O'Neil, a 68-year-old broker with Coldwell Banker United Realtors, once in the abdomen, police said.
Lt. Michael Belk, a spokesman for the Rock Hill Police Department 70 miles north of Columbia, said O'Neil was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Belt said the suspect has been charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
Belk said Blow had put a deposit down towards the purchase of real estate but decided he wanted his money back.

Tim Kretschmer took a 9-millimetre Beretta pistol, legally owned by his gun-collecting father, from the family home.
The gun wasn't kept with others in a locked cupboard, and German authorities are looked into whether to press changes against Kretschmer's father.

US man decapitated his five-year-old sister at her birthday party and fatally stabbed his 17-year-old sister amid what has been called "a killing field" in the Boston suburb of Milton.
The man was shot dead by police as he headed for his nine-year-old sister, Sarafina Revelus, who called police and watched them shoot her 23-year-old brother, Kerby, dead.
Police arrived as Revelus was attacking Sarafina, who was rushed to Boston Medical Center with serious stab wounds, but authorities say she is expected to survive.
"In policing, we see the raw human emotion every day, but to think that a human being could afflict such an atrocious, violent act on his own family is unbelievable,'' Milton police chief Richard G Wells Jr told The Associated Press.
"When I walked up to the first officer (on the scene), I could see the whole story right in his face. This just told me that this was something very bad,'' he said.
Police have no idea was sparked the killings on Saturday, but said Revelus has been in a fistfight with a next-door neighbour the previous day.
Revelus targeted his 17-year-old sister Samantha first, before attacking five-year-old Bianca as her birthday cake sat on a table nearby.
The childrens’ parent were away at the time.
Revelus had recently been released from jail after serving time on a gun charge.
The details of his criminal history will be released when courts open later today.
The officers involved in the case were receiving counselling from the Boston Police Department stress unit.

Pittsburgh Police: 3 Officers Killed in Shooting and Standoff Saturday, April 04, 2009
PITTSBURGH — A man opened fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call Saturday morning, killing three of them, before barricading himself in the home, a police official said.
Three officers were killed, said a police official at the scene who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
At least five officers were wounded, police spokeswoman Diane Richard said. It's not clear if that included the slain officers.
The man who fired at the officers was arrested after a several-hour standoff. One witness reported hearing hundreds of shots.
Edward Perkovic, a 22-year-old who said he was the gunman's best friend, said he got a call at work from him in which he said, "Eddie, I am going to die today. ... Tell your family I love them and I love you."
"I heard gunshots and he hung up," Perkovic said.
The officers were called to the home in the Stanton Heights neighborhood at about 7 a.m., Richard said.
Tom Moffitt, 51, a city firefighter who lives two blocks away, said he heard about the shooting on his scanner and came to the scene, where he heard "hundreds, just hundreds of shots. And not just once — several times."
Rob Gift, 45, who lives a block away, said he heard rapid gunfire as he was letting his dog out.
He said the neighborhood of well-kept single-family houses and manicured lawns is home to many police officers, firefighters, paramedics and other city workers.
