N Korea talks tough as South goes on alert

South Korea has put its military on high alert in response to threats of cross-border confrontation from the communist North.
In an unusual step, a senior North Korean military officer appeared on state television in Pyongyang to announce that the communist regime was adopting what he called an "all-out confrontational posture" against the South.
The North is upset by South Korean intrusions into disputed waters in the Yellow Sea - the scene of naval clashes in 1999 and 2002.
In response to the threat, the government in Seoul put its armed forces on alert along its land and sea borders.
But the South Korean defence ministry says no unusual movements of North Korean troops had been detected.
