WYOMING -- Members of Local 167, United Auto Workers, soundly rejected a package of changes to their contract Wednesday at the former Delphi Corp. plant, now held by General Motors Components Holding.
Workers voted 136 yes to 258 no, nearly 2-1 against the Memorandum of Understanding dated on St. Patrick's Day 2010.
The result could lead GM to close its last West Michigan plant, 2100 Burlingame Ave. SW, Wyoming, said union member Rodney Childs.
"The way they put it, it was a one-shot deal. Either that, or go into wind-down status," Childs said.
But three sister plants have yet to vote on a similar package. Each plant -- Wyoming; Kokomo, Ind.; and Rochester and Lockport, N.Y.-- was originally owned by GM, spun off with Delphi, rescued out of the protracted Delphi bankruptcy and last year, put into a separate GM holding.
