CAIRO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- A 6-year-old Egyptian boy has contracted the bird flu virus, bringing the human cases of the fatal avian influenza to 63 in the populous country, Egyptian Health Ministry said Sunday.
The boy, Ali Mahmoud Ali, comes from northern Egyptian governorate of Qalyubiya, some 40 km north of Cairo, the state MENA news agency reported, citing a health ministry statement.
The boy, who was admitted to hospital on March 28, is in a critical condition after receiving treatment, said the report.
Earlier on Friday, an Egyptian boy from northern Egyptian governorate of Beheira was confirmed to have contracted the bird flu virus.
Egypt is the most affected country by the deadly avian influenza outside Asia. It reported its first H5N1 virus in dead poultry in February 2006 and the first human case in March of the same year.
The death toll of the human cases of bird flu in the populous Arab country is 23.
According to the latest statistics of the World Health Organization on its website, some 413 people in 15 countries and regions have contracted the virus and 256 of them died of the disease.
