What is the truth? Police fired for being Tea Party members or budget cuts?
« Oct 27, 2010    07:35:40 PM »
Today I received a plea for help from the Tawakoni Area TEA Party. They have a Mayor that is out of control and hates the TEA Party too. He has fired 2 long time officers for no other apparent reason than the simple fact that they belong to the local TEA Party chapter.

West Tawakoni is a small town in East Texas, they don’t have a lot of TEA Party members and I am not sure how well connected to the media they are, but I know how connected I am, and I know that I have friends in the powerful, and LARGE Dallas TEA Party. I an certain that they will want to get involved in this.

This has been sent to Drudge, Breitbart, FOX and Friends, several local media here in the Dallas area, but I can’t stress this enough, the MEDIA needs to get ALL OVER this one. If you have ANY contacts in the media, send this to them.

The media, and most of Conservative America got their knickers in a twist over Juan Williams being fired by NPR, a case that was, in MY opinion, a libber reaping what he had sown, but if Conservative America can get involved and outraged over that, what will their reaction to this be?

I sincerely hope it’s not one of apathy.

Please, feel free to forward this to your email list and to ALL media that you may have contact with! It is that important!

From Lake Tawakoni Area TEA Party News

On October 20, 2010 Police Chief Jack Schultz was put on 10 days unpaid suspension at which time he will be terminated. This is a man that has served this city for twenty years and acts as a fatherly figure to his community while keeping us safe.

Sergeant John Becket has Proudly & Bravely served his community for over nine years and operates as a protector and referee of the law instead of a small town speed trap cop as the mayor has publicly announced he wants in he new police department.

These are the sole actions of Mayor Pete Yoho and are being done against the will of the majority of the city council.

A coup d’état ( or /ku de.ta/) or coup for short (French for overthrow of the state), is the sudden unconstitutional deposition of a government, usually by a small government’s surrender; or the acquiescence of the populace.

Sorry but WE THE PEOPLE do not ACQUIESCE !!! SOURCE

From Stormin’ Norman:

Re-Call Time For Mayor Yoho…run him out of town!

Mayor Pete Yoho has to go! The citizens of Lake Tawakoni have the right to re-call the mayor and fire him. They can do this at any time they see fit and apparently the time is fit! This has got to be the most un-American action taken by any mayor in the history of the country. Did the mayor of Chicago get rid of Barack Obama as a community organizer for Obama’s ties to the Communist Party USA? You just don’t fire someone for their political party affiliation…Oh, but we’re going to do that on November 2nd !!! ~ Norman E. Hooben

From Texas TEA Parties:

Police Chief Suspended and Police Officer terminated for affiliation with Tea Party-West Tawakoni, TX

    Friday, October 22nd, 2010
Subject: City Council Meeting in Tawakoni October 26, 2010
    ATTENTION ALL TEA PARTY MEMBERS

As most of you all know Johnny Beckett was terminated as an Police officer in West Tawakoni Wednesday Oct 20th and Chief Jack Schultz on Suspension by the Mayor of West Tawakoni Pete Yoho. The main reason for this action is their affiliation with the Tea Party. During last Tuesday nights meeting the Mayor publicly slandered the LTATP, Jack Schultz, Johnny Beckett, Candy Schultz, Bill Creed, Ed Watson, Carol Soloman, Laura Beckett, and my self. We need all members of the Tea Party to be at the next meeting at city hall Tue, Oct 26th at p.m.. These men are great officers and deserve all of our support. Chief Schultz has been on the police force for many many years and he also served as a volunteer fireman when ever needed. Help is needed. SOURCE

West Tawakoni Looks
Larry Briscoe, Editor

The West Tawakoni City Council took a three-hour look Tuesday night at reducing the number of police officers from five to three in efforts to keep red ink out of its budget.
“The mayor asked me to bring a budget that removes two police officers,” City Administrator Cloy Richards said.
In a note to the mayor and council, he said the reduction would reduce the general fund expense by at least $71,271 in just payroll, insurance and taxes and would free up additional expenses in retirement match.
Mayor Pete Yoho said by taking a look at history, the city built up its police force when it had its auction fund that brought in over $90,000 annually. “When the fund went away is when the council probably should have taken a look at that department,” he said.
“We have to look at it now,” Yoho said. “It’s not going away.”
He said he had been working with Police Chief Jack Schultz over the past couple of weeks in looking at shifts with a reduced force and its results.
“I can’t see us trying to sustain five officers,” the mayor said. “If we allocate funds for those officers we are hurting the city in other areas.” He gave as an example the need for road repairs after the problems caused by last winter’s weather. “Very little funds were set aside for roads. The roads are not going to get any better.”
Councilman Ed Watson asked to hear from Schultz on the matter.
“There’s no way to say it except it’s going to be tough,” Schultz said.
He said he had spoken with chiefs in several cities — including East Tawakoni, Emory, Caddo Mills and Wolfe City — that operate with a force of three. He said they all did the same thing that only left four to five hours uncovered. During those times, the city would rely on the sheriff’s office.
Schultz said calls to the sheriff’s office would mean they would make sure no one was in danger and then notify the caller when a West Tawakoni officer would be on duty to follow up.
Councilwoman Carol Solomon asked about the use of reserve officers.
Schultz said most of the reserves had other jobs and could not be expected to leave them. “My policy is that a reserve does not work by himself,” he said. The chief said in the event of court subpoenas, again, the reserve could not be asked to take away from his regular job to appear in court.
Schultz said his concern was that crime would go up and clearance of offenses would go down. “Myself and whoever stays will do the best they can,” he said.
Councilwoman Candy Schultz asked why it was always the police department that was cut.
Mayor Yoho said that was not the case but said that account was the one that had the most money.
Richards said there was no department in the general fund left with two people to allow further cuts. Later, he said the maintenance department had had five employees cut since he had been with the city.
Yoho said he had talked with other cities that went to three officers and was told by them that the biggest challenge they had experienced was educating the citizens to know what was an emergency.
Audience member Billy Creed asked to be heard and was recognized. Creed said he was not for higher taxes but would be in favor of paying more to keep the officers. He said it would not do any good to have roads if there were no officers to protect his home.
A 30 percent tax increase would be required to pay the cost of the officers.
Creed said he had lived in the area before the mayor had moved there and people made it with the roads in worse shape then. He continued to speak up and asked the mayor if he had heard of Robert’s Rules of Order and insisted he had the floor.
Yoho used the gavel, and Creed said, “Gavel, gavel, gavel. Yeah, use your gavel.”
The mayor asked him to leave the meeting. Creed got up to leave and told him that that was his second mistake and that he would run in the next election and take office.
Creek had spoken during the citizens comments portion of the meeting and said he wanted to discuss common sense. He said the person in charge of making background checks had not used common sense when hiring a contract laborer who had spent time in the penitentiary for child molestation.
“We are going to have a council chamber that respects one another,” Yoho said.
Richards reminded the council that he did not have the authority to prepare the budget without their direction. He said although a decision would not be made that night, they needed to provide input so a document could be prepared to consider at a later meeting.
Councilwoman Carol Welch said, “Things that I look at — I don’t want anyone to lose their job — but we’re in trouble. All cities are in the red. I don’t see we have much of a choice. We have to look at the future. This looks like an option we need to look at.”
“I’m with Carol,” Councilman Winston Dennis said. “Sometimes, you have to make hard decisions. If we don’t make an adjustment, we’re going to go into deficit.” He said he felt the city had some very capable people looking at the options.
Welch brought up the water storage tank that Utilities Director Lamont Jenkins said at the last meeting would need work in the future. He estimated the cost at $60,000.
Richards stressed that he did not want to give the impression that the city was impoverished. He said the city had a $54,000 certificate of deposit in the general fund.
Councilwoman Solomon questioned why the city should not retain the officer the city had hired under the federal grant program.
Richards said he did not know what the federal government would do with the grant program.
He said the city’s general fund had not supported itself since 1997 except one year and that was when one officer was cut from the police department.
The final consensus of the mayor and council was for Richards to prepare a three-option proposal for the next meeting — options for keeping five police officers, four officers and three officers.
Other business
• A contract was approved with Sanitation Solution to provide garbage pickup as discussed over the past meetings.
• All members of the council were present.
