Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A six-year old girl who had tested positive for the H1N1 virus has died.

The director general of disease control and environmental health of the ministry of health, Tjandra Yoga Aditama, said here on Saturday the girl who had had health problems including pneunomia for several years died on July 22.

She entered a hospital on July 19 with such symptons as fever, cough, breathing problems and a limp.

Regarding the first swine flu death case, Tjandra said "until now the disease is considered to bring no serious impact but the fact is that it could also cause deaths although the rate is small or only 0.4 percent. Low though its rate it must be watched."

He said the flu could spread directly from human to human by way of coughing, sneezing or touching items once touched by sufferers.

The number of A (H1N1) flu cases in Indonesia continued to rise from time to time.
The first two cases were reported on June 24 and the number then continued to rise.
The total number of people tested positive with the virus until July 25 reached 343 consisting of 193 men and 150 women.

According to the World Health Organization the disease had infected almost 10,000 people in the world and 0.4 percent of them had died.

Tjandra said the government had already taken measures to control the spread of the disease among others by strengthening monitoring at seaport health services, providing reference hospitals and anti-viral drug supply and conducting information campaign against the disease.(*)
