September 2, 2010 - Here we go again – another offshore oil platform exploded and caught fire Thursday off the Louisiana coast, spreading a mile-long oil sheen into the Gulf of Mexico – a crew of 13 were rescued with only one injury. The spill is about 200 miles west of the site of BP’s massive spill. Initially no leak was reported by Mariner Energy Inc., the owners of the platform. However, the U.S. Coast Guard said a mile-long oil sheen is spreading from the site of the platform.
